The Quiet Turning of the Year
There is a moment in the Celtic year that arrives softly.
No fireworks. No sudden shift. Just a gentle sense that something has begun to stir beneath the surface.
Imbolc marks this threshold, the quiet return of light, when winter loosens its grip and life begins to move again, slowly and with intention. At Myhaven Oysterhaven, we honour this moment with Imbolc: The Quiet Return of Light, an immersive seasonal sauna experience designed to support renewal, warmth, and awakening, both within the body and beyond it.

What Is Imbolc?
Imbolc is an ancient Celtic festival traditionally celebrated around 1st–2nd February, marking the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox.
The word “Imbolc” is believed to come from Old Irish, meaning “in the belly”, a reference to pregnancy, potential, and the unseen life beginning to form beneath the earth. Historically, it signalled the first signs of agricultural renewal, when sheep began to lactate and the land was prepared, quietly, for growth.
Rather than being a celebration of arrival, Imbolc honours becoming.
The Symbolism of Imbolc
Imbolc is deeply symbolic, centred around themes that remain profoundly relevant today:
Renewal — the slow reawakening after winter
Purification — clearing what no longer serves
Warmth & Hearth — tending the inner fire
Light Returning — lengthening days and renewed clarity
Intention — planting seeds, not rushing outcomes
It is traditionally associated with Brigid, goddess of hearth, healing, poetry and craft, a guardian of both fire and water, much like the contrast found in sauna practice.
Why Imbolc and Sauna Belong Together
Sauna is, at its heart, a ritual of transition.
Through heat, cold, breath and rest, we move between states, releasing tension, restoring circulation, and allowing the nervous system to recalibrate. When practised seasonally, sauna becomes more than physical care; it becomes a way of aligning with natural rhythms.
At Imbolc, the body mirrors the land:
We shed heaviness
We soften rigidity
We make space for what is quietly emerging
The sauna provides the perfect container for this work, warm, held, and deeply grounding.
